Trails
The Balade urbaine au fil de la Loue is a very easy, 3.2 km cultural heritage circular trail through Ornans along the Loue. The Sentier Courbet 1 starts at the Musée Courbet and leads via the Passerelle sur la Loue to the Place Gustave Courbet. It is an easy walk of approximately 4.0 km through Ornans, taking around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The 23.5 km-long Voie Courbet reaches Ornans and connects the high plateau with the Loue Valley. In Ornans, it enters the town, crosses the Loue on the large bridge and runs alongside the Musée Courbet.
Culture
The Musée départemental Gustave Courbet in Ornans houses around 400 works, including approximately 60 works by Gustave Courbet. The Musée Courbet visitor guide works on smartphones or loaned tablets and offers texts in French, English and German, as well as audio description and content in French Sign Language.
The Église Saint-Laurent was rebuilt in the second half of the 16th century; its nave with four bays and the choir were built between 1546 and 1548. The war memorial on Place Robert Humblot in Ornans has been listed as a historic monument since 19 December 2022. The Hôpital Saint-Louis in Ornans is partly protected as a historic monument. A significant tapestry donated by Juliette Courbet at the end of her life can still be seen in the entrance area.
The Musée de la vie d'avant depicts life in Franche-Comté between 1850 and 1930 through numerous scenes featuring dolls in period costumes. For groups of ten or more, the museum offers guided tours by prior email registration.
