Culture and History

The lime kilns of Chalezeule date from 1864 and were built by Pierre Bertin. Hydraulic lime was produced in the lime kilns of Chalezeule and used exclusively for the construction of the quays of Besançon.

Fort Benoît was built between 1877 and 1880 to defend Besançon. The Château de la Juive is also known as Châtel de Clémentigney and was originally called that; it originally served as a hunting meeting place for the Princes of Baufremond.

The Sentier du Papillon is a nature trail focusing on the biodiversity of the municipality of Chalezeule. It includes several circular routes and various stations where visitors can observe and learn about Chalezeule’s natural diversity.

In the immediate vicinity of Chalezeule are the ruins of the Château de Montfaucon, as well as the Bregille Bastion, the Rivotte Bastion, and the Rivotte Gate, all historical sites. The Mont des Buis, a hill, is also located near Chalezeule.

In summer, a Ginko bus route takes passengers from Pôle Orchamps to Piscine Chalezeule in about five minutes.
