Arc-et-Senans is the modern and utopian extension of the Grande Saline de Salins-les-Bains. The Saline royale d’Arc-et-Senans was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1982.

Culture
The Saline royale was built as a salt manufactory at the request of Louis XV; construction took place between 1775 and 1779. As an integrated factory, it was laid out in the shape of a semicircle and comprised eleven buildings for production and workers’ accommodation.
The Musée Claude Nicolas Ledoux is the only museum in Europe dedicated to an architect. It presents around 60 models illustrating the built and unrealised work of Claude Nicolas Ledoux.
The HistoPad allows visitors to explore the 18th-century Saline royale in augmented reality; they can encounter the salt workers in the process.
The Église Sainte-Bénigne was consecrated in 1852 and built by the architect Max Painchaux. It contains ten works of art from the 16th and 17th centuries; self-guided visits are possible at any time.
Nature
The gardens of Un Cercle Immense include a garden with medicinal and aromatic plants, a Jura Arc garden, a willow garden and an ecological vegetable garden.

The Arc-et-Senans TER railway station is located 100 metres from the Saline royale.
