Hiking and Landscape

In Les Fontenelles, the route to the Puits du Glaçon leads through the village and through a Pré-bois habitat typical of the Jura Mountains, characterised by woodland and pastureland and dependent on human activities for its preservation. The circular hike is 10.5 kilometres long and takes 3 hours. Yellow-and-blue trail markers and directional signs bearing marker no. 7 indicate the route; its starting point can be reached by Mobigo line 206 between Pontarlier and Montbéliard.

The Puits du Glaçon cave is 15 to 25 metres wide, and its ceiling reaches a height of 4 metres. It was named after an icicle that often remained in place throughout the year in the past. The Point de vue des Fontenelles viewpoint offers hikers a view of the northern high range of the Jura; in clear weather, the peaks of the Bernese Alps can be seen.
