Foucherans: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The present-day Église paroissiale Saint-Philippe et Saint-Jacques was completely rebuilt in 1866; its bell tower dates from 1724. The church houses the Châsse de saint Maximin, dating from the late 19th century. The saint’s relics are visible through its four glazed sides.

Culture and history

The Lavoir-abreuvoir de Foucherans was built in 1855 with limestone walls and a roof made of mechanical tiles. The former Chapelle Saint-Maximin was destroyed in 1777 and rebuilt between 1865 and 1867.

The Musée rural de Foucherans is housed in a 17th-century farmhouse that preserves a stone Tué, typical of the farmhouses of the Franche-Comté plateau, and a bread oven. The museum displays collections that evoke rural interiors from the period before mechanisation.

Nature

The Arboretum du Grand Bois presents numerous tree species, a fern collection and various perennial understorey plants. The Espace Botanique des Arboretums du Grand Bois includes an orchard with around ten fruit trees.

The Belvédère du Gratteris offers views over the first plateau above Besançon; in clear conditions, Mont Poupet to the south and the Butte de Montfaucon can be seen.
