Culture and History
The Église paroissiale de l’Assomption was built in the 17th century. Its single-nave layout is lined by six side chapels.
The Pievanie of Santa Maria Poghju preserves the remains of an old three-nave pieve church. The Pievanie monument can be dated to around the year 1000, more precisely to the first quarter of the 11th century.
The former Piebania di Moriani was significant to the history of Corsican early Romanesque architecture. The building known as “Palazzu Reale” commemorates King Théodore de Neuhoff’s stay of several days in the village of Poghju.
On the day of San Pancraziu, 12 May, flowers are laid near the old chapel at two stones bearing horseshoe-shaped and foot-shaped imprints, respectively.
The Genoese Bridge is located near the Pievanie and spans the Buccatoghju River. It was probably built in the 17th century according to a type of construction used by engineers of the Republic of Genoa.
Nature
The Ucelluline Waterfall lies on the Corniche road between the village of Poghju and the hamlet of Fano in the municipality of San Nicolao. Two tunnels carved into the rock announce the waterfall.
The natural pools at Ucelluline Waterfall are used for swimming; the waterfall also attracts people interested in canyoning and climbing.
Harbour and Coast
Port de Taverna is a marina open year-round under a concession from the municipality. In the municipality of Santa Maria di u Poghju, Port de Taverna has 450 berths and can accommodate boats with a maximum length of 25 metres.
Vanga di l’Oru is a rocky beach.
