Orneto: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
In Velone stands the Church of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul, whose construction may date back to the first half of the 18th century. Its single-nave body has a barrel vault divided by lunettes; the apse is vaulted with a half-dome. The furnishings include a 19th-century altarpiece depicting the apparition of the Immaculate Conception before Saints Peter and Ursula.
Culture
In the hamlet of Carbonaccia stands a structure considered characteristic of the architecture of the Third Republic. Ornetu is characterised by densely clustered houses that open onto a small village square. The entrance gate to Velone invites pedestrians to discover beautiful viewpoints in the village. The small Chapel of San Giuseppe in Fiuminale was restored in 2012.
Nature
The Petrignani River is designated in Velone-Orneto as a noteworthy natural site. An old chestnut grove, considered to have survived, is also located there.
History
Hiking loop 19 crosses Velone-Orneto and lists the Chapelle San Ghjiseppu as a sight. The sights of Velone-Orneto also include a mule track from the 17th century paved with Genoese cobblestones. Fiuminale is an abandoned village in the heights of Velone-Orneto. It is accessible exclusively on foot or horseback: via the paths from Fiuminale Suttanu starting at the Pont de l'Enfer, or via Fiuminale Supranu from the hamlet of Ornetu. The marked, shaded paths take about one hour and 15 minutes.
