Nature
Pinia is a 362.78-hectare protected area in Ghisonaccia that is open to the public. Pinia Forest has a fully signposted fitness trail and various sports facilities for cyclists, runners and families.
Pinia Forest borders Ghisonaccia Beach and is one of Corsica’s last maritime pine forests.
The Urbinu Lagoon covers approximately 790 hectares and is protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral. The lagoon and its associated wetlands, including the Marais de Piobi, serve as resting and feeding areas for birds.
Coast and Activities
The D244, known as the “route de la mer”, connects the centre of Ghisonaccia with Vignale Beach; the four-kilometre road is lined with a cycle path.
Vignale Beach is monitored by a lifeguard station in July and August. It also has accessible facilities, including an access mat, a Titalo beach wheelchair and toilets for people with reduced mobility.
Located on Ghisonaccia Beach, the Fun Orizonte base offers towed water sports, pedal boats, stand-up paddleboarding and quad tours accompanied by a BPJEPS instructor.
Local Life and Culture
The Marché des Producteurs de Pays in Ghisonaccia brings together local producers and organically farmed products. The Ghisonaccia farmers’ market offers seasonal local products and regional specialities and enables direct contact with the producers.
The “Urbinu in Festa” event was established in 2016 and includes educational and recreational workshops on the lagoon’s biodiversity, the role of lagoons and the vulnerability of wetlands.
The Saint Philippe Chapel, also known as the Ghisonaccia-Gare Chapel, was built in 1902 by the inhabitants of the Ghisonaccia-Gare and Saint Antoine areas. A parish mass is held every Sunday morning at 9 a.m. in Saint Philippe Chapel; religious celebrations such as Saint Philippe, the Saint Antoine procession and Saint Jean are also held there annually.
Neo-Byzantine frescoes were created in Ghisonaccia in three stages between 1980 and 1985.
Orientation
At Étang d’Urbinu, there is a car park near the coastguard house, as well as an outdoor information facility about the history and heritage of the lagoon.
The Corse Orientale Tourist Office is located in the centre of Ghisonaccia and provides information for stays in the region.
