Trails and Landscape
The Chemin du Chiusellu is 5.5 kilometres long; the estimated walking time is two hours and the elevation gain is 321 metres. At the same time, the trail connects Grisgione with Col San Leonardo. Mucchiete is a starting point for hiking trails to Cima Ventigliola, Cima de Morelli, Cima de Fornelli, Cima de Terrazze and Cima de Pietr'Ellerata.
The Chemin du Moulin begins at Grisgione Beach and follows old mule tracks through cultivated terraces and fragrant maquis along the rural cultural heritage. At a junction on the Chemin du Moulin, it is possible to reach the Marine de Miomo with its 16th-century Genoese tower via Licciola, or to continue as far as the village of San Martino.
The Monte Giorgo and Monte Pinzutu mountains are located in the vicinity of San-Martino-di-Lota; the Punta di Guaitella and Mont San-Columbano peaks are also found there.
Coast
Grisgione Beach is a pebble beach on the coast of Cap Corse in San-Martino-di-Lota. Place Sainte Croix in Casanova offers a remarkable panoramic view of the sea, the Tuscan islands of Capraia, Elba, Pianosa and Montecristo, as well as the surrounding valleys.
Culture and History
Château Cagninacci is a former Capuchin monastery dating from the early 17th century, with a small cloister, and is a listed monument. Maison Graziani, also known as “Maison d’Américains”, was built in the 19th century and overlooks the Lota valley.
The Tour de Sacro ruins, the historic site of Couvent Santa Catalina, the Chapelle San Quilico ruins and the Tour de Castellare ruins are located in the vicinity of San-Martino-di-Lota. The architectural complex comprises the parish church, bell tower, Sainte-Croix Brotherhood chapel, sacristy and former presbytery.
