Campana lies at the foot of Monte San Petrone and overlooks the Orezza Valley. The village is located in Corsica’s Regional Nature Park, in the heart of Castagniccia.

Culture and History

The Church of Sant'Andrea is a Baroque building that probably dates from the first half of the 18th century. The church contains 23 notable works, including objects, furnishings and paintings. The church towers above the village of Campana.

In the Church of Sant'Andrea, visitors can admire the painting “L'Adoration des bergers”. The 17th-century Spanish painting is located in the parish church of Campana and has been classified there as a protected cultural object since 17 December 1957.

The side-altar ensemble of the Poor Souls in Purgatory in the Church of Saint-André is a homogeneous 18th-century ensemble. The tabernacle and the statue are exceptions, as they date from the end of the 19th or the beginning of the 20th century.

The painting “Le Christ mort soutenu par un ange, ou La Déploration du Christ” is classified as a historical monument.

The Musée Paoli, a museum, is located in the surrounding area. Monte San Petrone, a mountain, and Monte Calleruccio, also a mountain, are nearby. The ruins of Chapelle San Petro d'Accia are also in the immediate vicinity. The ruins of Église Santa Maria and Couvent d'Alesani, a historic site, are also located in the surrounding area.

Monte Muffraje, a peak, is located nearby. Monte Piano, a mountain, is also in the surrounding area. The San Pietro d'Accia forest around Campana is home to beech trees, chestnut trees and holm oaks.

Hiking

A hiking trail begins to the right of the Church of Sant'Andrea. This hiking trail leads towards San Petrone.
