Petreto-Bicchisano: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ponti Vecchiu, also known as Pont d’Abra, is a Genoese stone bridge over the Taravo. Pont d’Abra was classified as a historic monument by decree of 10 November 1976.

Culture

The parish church of Saint-Nicolas was rebuilt between 1874 and 1878 on the site of an older church. In the upper part of Petreto, you can stroll through lanes lined with numerous buildings from the 16th century; architectural details, public fountains and a shady square can be seen there. Near the village is the Bronze Age archaeological site of Settiva. It comprises a burial chamber made of large stone slabs, with a vestibule separated by stone slabs.

The former Franciscan monastery of Saint-François d’Istria was founded in 1602 by the notables Ercole and Federico d’Istria. The Church of Saint-Nicolas preserves furnishings taken from the former monastery, including a polychrome altar as well as statues, chapels and paintings listed in the register of historic monuments.

Local life

The Coopérative U Taravu processes locally produced sheep’s and goat’s milk into Sartenais-style cheese with a flower-covered rind, seasonal Brocciu and pressed Tomme cheese. Biortu welcomes visitors for snacks, crêpes, fruit juices and tours of the orchards.

The site of Pont d’Abra is known as an unsupervised bathing spot. The fishing section “U mondu di u pesciu d’Abra” was established by the Territorial Collectivity of Corsica and is designated as a “No-Kill” stretch. During the river fishing season, it is approximately 1.5 kilometres long under the rules of the first fishing category; caught fish must be released.
