Hiking
A car park near Furnellu Beach provides access to a coastal path leading to the Tour d'Olmeto and onwards to Pointe de Caniscione. The hike to the Tour d'Olmeto is described as an easy 3.94-kilometre circular route. The path runs through coastal maquis containing myrtle, strawberry tree, heather, rockrose, Phoenician juniper, holm oak, sarsaparilla, mastic shrub and tamarisk on a marine abrasion platform formerly used for agriculture. The Tour d'Olmeto is one of the Genoese towers built from the 16th century onwards to protect the island from incursions by the Barbary pirates. The walk in Roccapina takes around two hours there and back; access to the tower is prohibited.
The Sentier du Patrimoine in Monacia-d'Aullène is an easy, 4-kilometre circular hike. It is described as a family-friendly walk suitable for everyone. Three orii can be discovered along the route; the Oriu de Cubia and the surrounding caves have been inhabited since prehistoric times.
The Sentier de l’Oriu is part of the A casa di Roccapina circuit and includes a 20-minute audio-guided walk through the world of the taffoni, featuring a reconstructed oriu. A casa di Roccapina also has museographic facilities created as part of the development of the site.
The Sentier du Belvédère is freely accessible and requires around 45 minutes of walking to descend through the Roccapina maquis.
The hike to Omu di Cagna is 8.6 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 800 metres and is classified as challenging. Omu di Cagna is a granite block at an altitude of 1,218 metres, offering views over the far south of Corsica, Sardinia and as far as the Gulf of Valinco.
Culture and History
The Chapelle Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul in Giannuccio underwent its main construction phase at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is a granite building with a single-nave layout and an exposed wooden roof structure.
The parish church of Saint-Nicolas in Monacia-d'Aullène was built in the mid-19th century and remodelled in the 20th century.
Punta di Canisgionu is home to a prehistoric archaeological site described as being 9,000 years old.
