In the hamlet of Araghju lies Casteddu d’Araghju, a prehistoric Bronze Age fortress. The circular fortified site measures around 40 metres in diameter and has two monumental entrances. It can be reached via a short path from a developed car park in Araghju; admission is free.
Access to Room 3 of Casteddu d’Araghju has been prohibited since 10 April 2026 due to the risk of falling rocks and the instability of individual sections of the walls.
Anyone choosing San-Gavino-di-Carbini and Casteddu d’Araghju as a travel destination will want to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture
The Church of Saint-Gavin is of Romanesque origin. On the north wall of the nave, it preserves a walled-up opening with fragments of a Corinthian capital and an acanthus leaf. The granite-built bell tower is separate from the main nave.
San-Gavino-di-Carbini also preserves 17th-century granite houses. On the Pianu di i Stantari between San-Gavino-di-Carbini and Paccionitoli in the municipality of Zonza, at the edge of the D67, the remains of several rows of menhirs have been preserved.
North of San-Gavino-di-Carbini lies the medieval site of Casteddu di Sadisei, also known as Sadisè. It was used by the Biancolacci lords as a place of refuge from around 1000 until the 14th century.
Geographical setting
In the immediate vicinity of San-Gavino-di-Carbini lies Castellu di Cucuruzzu, an ancient site. The Musée de l'Alta Rocca museum and the summit of Punta di Serradu are also located nearby.
In the surrounding area of San-Gavino-di-Carbini lies the historic site of Couvent de Saint-François. The ancient site of Castellu d'Arraggio, the summit of Punta di u Diamante, Monte Calva mountain and the summit of Punta di a Vaca Morta are also located there.
