Zonza’s landscape combines the Aiguilles de Bavella with marked hiking trails and a diverse local history. The Aiguilles de Bavella massif rises above the pass of the same name, which lies at an altitude of 1,218 metres. The massif consists of seven main peaks known as the «Sept Tours d’Asinau».

Nature
The alpine variant of the GR20 includes a marked technical section secured with a steel cable. It is a marked, challenging hike for experienced hikers, with secured technical passages and impressive panoramas. Allow around four hours for the round trip to Punta di u Pargulu, or seven hours for the complete loop via the alpine variant.
The U TAFONU DI U CUMPULEDDU – TROU DE LA BOMBE route is classified as easy, takes around three hours, and includes 200 metres of ascent and 200 metres of descent. Near Bavella, it passes through a Laricio pine forest to a spectacular natural phenomenon created by erosion.
At the Aiguilles de Bavella, there are hiking trails accessible from Bavella that are described according to different levels of difficulty. For seasonal access to Bavella, visitors can park in Viseo and use the summer shuttle service; there is also a paid car park directly in Bavella.
Culture and History
The village of Zonza has been laid out in terraces since the 17th century. Its old granite houses stand on rocky outcrops overlooking the Asinao valley. In the Santa-Barbara district of Zonza stands the Chapelle Sainte-Barbe, an isolated chapel made of granite and rubble stone. The Romanesque Santa Barbara chapel is part of Zonza’s historical heritage.
In the centre of Zonza, the Musée de la Résistance corse is devoted exclusively to the history of Corsica during the Second World War and places particular emphasis on the resistance fighters of Alta Rocca. The collection comprises 130 objects and documents, as well as five multimedia offerings in French, Corsican, English and Italian. The Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Zonza was built in the Neo-Gothic style.
The Hippodrom de Viseo in Zonza lies at an altitude of around 950 metres among Laricio pines and is considered the highest racecourse in Europe. Every summer, it becomes a venue for a popular festival; five horse races take place there between the end of June and the end of August.
