Appietto: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Rocher des Gozzi reaches a height of 705 meters and towers over the Pays Ajaccien. The Golfe de Lava covers 150 hectares of Appietto’s municipal territory and includes a low-lying sandy terrace as well as the lower course of the Lava stream.

Culture

Santa Maria Assunta was built in 1532 as Appietto’s new church. Later renovations gave it a bell tower approximately 30 meters high; its interior features trompe-l’œil and grisaille murals by Ivan Choupik.

The construction of the San Chirgu Chapel is estimated to date to the end of the 14th century. Until the construction of the Santa Maria Assunta church in 1532, it served as Appietto’s parish church. The chapel is located on the Saint-Cyr plateau and overlooks the Gulf of Ajaccio and the Lava Valley.

The traditional Four de Volpaja stands in the historic hamlet of Volpaja and is considered evidence of the medieval history of the municipality of Appietto. The 14th-century San Sistru Chapel was Appietto’s main church before it was abandoned and is now a ruin.

Appietto celebrates the San Chirgu (San Quilicu) patron saint’s festival every year. It includes a mass in the Saint Cyr Chapel followed by a procession on site.

Ciutulaghja is a megalithic burial complex dating from the end of the 4th millennium BC. The Ciutulaghja dolmen consists of three upright supporting stones; only scattered fragments of its capstone remain.

Nature

At Tamaricciu in the Golfe de Lava, the Dune du Golfe de Lava area includes a secondary coastal dune and a stand of mastic shrubland behind the beach. The Dune du Golfe de Lava area is designated under the Habitats Directive.

Water

There is a base for recreational water activities on Lava Beach. The water sports mentioned there include jet skiing, boat trips, and pedal boating.

For summer 2026, the municipality of Appietto points out that no lifeguard service will be provided at Lava Beach.

Hiking

A hike to Monte Gozzi begins at the parking lot of the San Chirgu Chapel. The circular hike to the Rocher des Gozzi and Punta Pastinaca begins at the parking lot of the San Chirgu Chapel opposite Appietto. This circular hike reaches the summit of Punta Pastinaca; a 360-degree view is described there.
