Marignana: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Marignana is surrounded by mountains with red rocks. Around the church dedicated to Saint James stand tall, distinctive stone houses featuring architectural details such as sculpted portals and corbels.

Renting a holiday apartment in Marignana is one possible element of an individual travel plan.

Culture

The Church of Saint James was built at the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. Its painted furnishings were created between 1870 and 1880 by the painter Jean-Noël Coppolani, who came from Marignana, and were revised by Raymond Rifflard in the third quarter of the 20th century. Numerous reused stones have been preserved in the walls of houses neighbouring the Church of Saint James, some of which bear an unusual bestiary.

The hamlet of Chidazzu was founded at the beginning of the 16th century by shepherds from Niolo. The Church of Saint Francis Xavier was built there between 1670 and 1686, replacing the older, dilapidated Church of Saint Nicholas, which stood away from the houses. The church has a single-nave body with a barrel vault, a semicircular choir with a calotte vault, and a bell tower topped by a dome. The Chapel of Saint Francis Xavier in the hamlet of Chidazzu also has a distinctive bell tower made of wood and bronze.

The Church of Saint Simeon in Revinda was built in 1800 and consecrated in 1801 by the last Bishop of Sagone, Monseigneur Francesco Guasco. In the former copper-mining area of Prunelli near Revinda, Gradi and Livida Mala, mining facilities are still partly visible today.

Hiking

At Marignana, the Mare a Mare Nord hiking trail reaches the final section of the Mare è Monti. The Mare è Monti Nord route includes a 15.6-kilometre stage from Marignana to E Case.

Festivals

The votive festival in honour of Saint James is traditionally celebrated every year. Marignana's patronal festival takes place on the last Sunday in July. The patronal festival of Saint James includes a mass in the Church of Saint James.

Remembrance

Marignana played an important role in the Resistance during the Second World War. Around fifteen photographs taken in the village were exhibited at Marignana Town Hall.
