The Scandola Nature Reserve in Osani was established on 9 December 1975 and covers 1,919 hectares. Scandola is the part of an ancient volcanic complex above sea level that partially collapsed into the sea, and one of the most important refuges for ospreys in France.
Girolata is a well-protected anchorage on the west coast of Corsica on the edge of the Scandola Nature Reserve. The Gulf of Girolata is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Gulf of Porto”, which has been protected since 1983. Girolata also has a viewpoint overlooking Scandola, Cap Seninu and the village.
Below the village of Osani lies Plage de Gradelle beach. It is the last beach accessible by car before the Gulf of Girolata and forms a 200-metre-long cove made up of small pebbles.

Culture and History
The natural harbour of Girolata is accessible only by boat or on foot, as a road was never built there. The Fortin de Girolata is located in the hamlet of Girolata in Osani, Corse-du-Sud. It began as a rectangular tower built in the mid-16th century and was expanded into a heavily fortified complex by the first quarter of the 17th century. Its architecture is considered highly original and clearly different from other Genoese defensive monuments in Corsica.
The Aghja of Girolata is a very well-preserved threshing floor for grain and was used until the end of the 1950s. The hamlet of Curzu has old granite houses.
Hiking and Water
The Mare e Monti Nord long-distance hiking trail runs from Calenzana to Cargèse and comprises ten stages. These include, among others, the stages from Galéria to Girolata and from Girolata to Curzu. The Mare e Monti Nord is part of the network of discovery trails of the Parc Naturel Régional de la Corse.
From Plage de Gradelle beach, an accessible trail leads along the Gradelle–Caspiu hike, offering beautiful views of the Gulf of Porto. Gradelle Kayak rents sea kayaks at Plage de Gradelle beach below the village of Osani.
