Cauro: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

The Torri and Casiforti of Cauro comprise defensive towers and fortified houses built from the 16th century onwards. Cauro is also home to the Chapel of Saint Antoine and the Chapel of Sainte Lucie.

Cauro’s sights include the A Torriccia windmill, the Funtanella fountain and the fountain of la Cucca. Remains of defensive corbels, known as bretèches, are still visible.

Several paintings donated by Cardinal Fesch can be seen in the parish church of Sainte-Barbe in Cauro. The baptismal font in the Church of Sainte-Barbe in Cauro is made entirely of white marble, dates from the 18th century and has been restored.

The construction of a fortification called Rocca de Cavru is attributed to the Lords of Tralavetu. Cauro’s cultural heritage also includes prehistoric sites and remains such as the Casteddu d’Alzolu. The first houses in the Caru Antunellu and Cavru Vechju districts were built in the 15th century.

Things to Do

The Chemin de Traversa a Cavru Vecchju trail leads via Stezzara, Punta Garimaldella, Murata and Epara. A fair is held every year on Cauro’s village square.

Ortu di San Ghjùvà offers garden produce, fresh Brocciu, maquis honey and Casa Serena charcuterie. At the entrance to Domaine Finili, Ortu di San Ghjùvà welcomes visitors daily and offers a stall selling organic fruit and vegetables from the garden, a delicatessen and a food counter.

The Days of Local Producers in Cauro feature cheese and wine tastings with products from southern Corsica, as well as cooking demonstrations featuring Brocciu, including pastries and prepared dishes. The event also includes a cheese competition and tasting workshops.
