Viggianello: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The old streets of Viggianello feature a typical heritage that bears witness to life in the Corsican villages of the past. Many houses date from the 16th and 17th centuries. In the hamlet of Vetaro, the Casatorra has twin windows.

Culture and History

The Église Saint-Sauveur was built in 1863 according to plans by the architect Émile Hess, on the site of a former vicar's chapel. Its bell tower is crowned by a lantern. The church is open all year round; services and polyphony concerts take place there, and curious visitors are welcome.

On the border with the municipality of Propriano, the ruins of the Romanesque church of Saint Jean Baptiste can be seen. The church was built on an ancient site and belonged to the former Pieve Viggiano.

Landscape

Viggianello offers panoramic views of the Gulf of Valinco and is partly situated on the right bank of the Rizzanese. A walk through the Corsican maquis leads to the ruins of the medieval castle above Viggianello. The ruins preserve a cistern. The walk ends at a summit offering views of the Gulf of Valinco, the Aiguilles de Bavella and the tower of Capu di Muro.
