Directly behind Punta Capigliolo, Liamone Beach begins and stretches along both sides of the mouth of the Liamone River. The beach site is protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment can choose Tiuccia as a destination.

Coast and landscape

Monte Lazzu rises in the hills above Tiuccia. From there, views extend across the Liamone plain and the Gulf of Sagone. Monte Lazzu can be reached via an easy, shady walking path beneath cork oaks, leading to a prehistoric archaeological site.

The Casaglione-Tiuccia area has paths, tracks and rural routes through the maquis to viewpoints and coastal access points.

History

An archaeological rock shelter was discovered on Monte Lazzu. It served as a burial site and contained metal objects from the Early Iron Age. In Roman times, Tiuccia was an observation and defence post.

Construction of the Capigliolu tower began in 1582. It was part of a series of Genoese coastal fortifications that the Republic of Genoa had built between 1530 and 1620 to repel attacks by the Barbary pirates. Today, the tower is a ruined Genoese tower on Punta Capigliolo, north of the Gulf of La Liscia, and stands at an elevation of 91 metres.

The hills above Tiuccia are also home to the ruins of the Château de Capraja, one of the last estates of the Cinarchesi.

Walking routes

An easy walk from the entrance to Tiuccia leads north to the Fortin and the Genoese tower of Capigliolu. Along the way, there are views of Liamone Beach and the Gulf of Liscia.

Getting there

From Ajaccio, follow the D81 towards Sagone as far as Tiuccia/Casaglione. The journey takes around 30 minutes; the coastal road is straightforward and quick and accessible to all vehicles.
