Aullène: Holiday Apartments and Houses
Aullène combines traces of Corsican history with a high-altitude landscape. Anyone planning a stay in Aullène may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture
Among the notable structures is the Pont du Chiuvonu, a single-arch bridge over the Chiuvonu stream. The Fontaine de la Liberté dates from 1881 and bears a cast-iron Marianne dating from 1863. Aullène also looks back on a long tradition of livestock farming and transhumance.
The parish church of Saint Nicolas was built at the beginning of the 19th century. Inside, it has a pulpit supported by four winged dolphins. The Sant’Antioccu chapel is located in the heights above the village, less than one kilometre from the church. The festival in honour of Saint Antioch is held on the first Sunday in August, with religious ceremonies and festivities.
Campanaju is also one of the town’s historic sites: the site is considered a possible location of a fortress built in the 13th century and associated with Sinucello Della Rocca. Aullène’s Protestant temple bears witness to disputes between the republican mayor and the Bonapartist priest.
Landscape
Aullène lies at an altitude of 850 metres and stretches around two foothills dominated by Punta d’Ariola. The summit reaches 1,449 metres. The Chiuvone rises on the Cuscionu plateau, forms Aullène’s north-northeastern municipal boundary, runs past the village and then continues towards Valinco.
The site there offers an impressive view of the surrounding area.
Trails
The trail “Da piaghja a muntagna – Le village de la transhumance” runs through Aullène’s narrow streets and is used to explore the village’s history and cultural heritage. For a hike in the surrounding area, there is the trail to the Rocher Oscillant: the route is easy, around four kilometres long and takes approximately three hours.
The trail to the Rocher Oscillant is on the right-hand side of the road before the Pont de l’Anellu when driving up towards the Col de la Vaccia. On the last weekend of July, A Fiera d’Audde brings together craftspeople and visitors. In Aullène, Cave Tramoni offers wine tastings.
