Nature along the Fouzon

The Fouzon flows through Varennes-sur-Fouzon. On the Îles du Fouzon, numerous paths run along the water, between ash trees and pollarded willows. The Îles du Fouzon are classified as Espaces Naturels Sensibles and provide a habitat for the rare yellow false goat's-beard and the endangered bog roller.

Walking Trails and Routes

The “Entre Fouzon et Regon” walking trail is easy, 6.0 kilometres long and takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. It begins in Varennes-sur-Fouzon and follows a path to the banks of the Fouzon. The “Nature et Patrimoine à Varennes-sur-Fouzon” route includes the Chapelle de l'Epinat as a point of interest.

History and Crafts

The Chapelle de l'Epinat dates from the 12th century and is the surviving part of a Benedictine priory. It has been listed as a Monument historique since 12 June 1926. Roger Charreyre's flame-glass workshop in Varennes-sur-Fouzon offers studio tours and demonstrations.

Varennes-sur-Fouzon railway station is located on Rue de la Gare.
