Menetou-Sur-Nahon: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Menetou-sur-Nahon lies in the valley of the Nahon, a 43-kilometre-long river. The Nahon is a tributary of the Fouzon.

Water and landscape

In the centre of the village, the Nahon historically powered the wheels of two mills belonging to the Château de Menetou. The river also fed the moats of the Château de Menetou. Menetou-sur-Nahon is characterised by its numerous bridges; two bridges at the Parc du château de Campoix date back to the time of Louis XIV.

Near Menetou-sur-Nahon, the Nahon is designated as a second-category river for fishing. Along its banks there are tables, a recreational area with children's play equipment and sanitary facilities.

Culture and history

The medieval religious settlement comprised a church, a cloister and a hostel for pilgrims. The history of the now-destroyed Château de Menetou dates back to 1529. The municipality was home to a former fortified site, which was probably the family castle of the Roury family.

Nature

Since 22 November 2017, three additional bird species have been added to the Natura 2000 site FR2410023 – Plateau de Chabris / La Chapelle Montmartin: Montagu's harrier (Circus pygargus), hen harrier (Circus cyaneus) and European nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus).
