Saint-Gaultier: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Gaultier is located on the Creuse, in the Creuse Valley and in the Brenne Regional Nature Park. Local routes include the historic Saint-Gaultier circular trail: the blue-marked hiking trail is 2.5 km long.

Nature and Trails

The Voie Verte is a secure path along the river that is accessible from Saint-Gaultier. Hike no. 58, “Balade en bord de Creuse”, passes through Saint-Gaultier along the Voie Verte, beside the river and across a viaduct.

L’Ilon is a walking area that was originally a small natural islet. At its tip, a mill enabled electricity generation from 1902 onwards with the help of a channel supplying water from the Creuse.

Culture and History

The church of Saint-Gaultier Priory was built at the end of the 11th century. The church and priory form a Romanesque complex whose square pillars and dome are reminiscent of the buildings of Limousin. The former Saint-Gaultier Priory became a college in 1740.

The town’s industrial history is also visible: three lime kilns in the Lignac district of Saint-Gaultier remained in operation until the 1960s.

Local Produce

Ferme de Bel Air produces farm-made cow’s milk cheese, raw cream and raw milk.
