History and Culture

The Église Saint-Pierre de Sainville is a religious building dating from the 12th century and a distinctive part of the cultural heritage of the Eure-et-Loir département. The largest bell of the Église Saint-Pierre dates from 1549 and is classified as a historic monument. The church is intended to be opened to visitors to the area, particularly those exploring the religious heritage of Beauce and Chartres.

The Musée Farcot has borne the French designation “Musée de France” since 17 September 2003. It is located at 2 place Farcot, 28700 Sainville, and can generally be visited on the second Sunday of each month from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; during the school holidays, it is possible to reserve an appointment.

The Couvent Marie Poussepin is considered the cradle of the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Charity of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, founded by Marie Poussepin. The choir of the chapel of the Couvent Marie Poussepin is decorated with a monumental fresco by the painter Pierre Petit, who came from Tours. The Feast of the Presentation of Mary is celebrated there on 21 November; on this occasion, the sisters symbolically renew their vows.

Nature

The Bois de Sainville near Sainville is a type I ZNIEFF site covering 9 hectares. It is a calcareous pedunculate oak and hornbeam forest and is home to populations of Asarum europaeum and Doronicum plantagineum; both species are protected at regional level.

Visiting Hours

The Bibliothèque de Sainville is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the school term. During the school holidays, it is open exclusively on Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
