Fessanvilliers-Mattanvilliers combines a documented local history with rural architecture, walking routes and regional produce. This character is particularly evident at the Église Saint-Sulpice and along the paths through forests, landscapes and bodies of water.
Culture and history
The Église Saint-Sulpice is dedicated to Saint Sulpicius the Pious, who was Bishop of Bourges and died in 647. The present church is a rural building that was probably rebuilt and altered several times between the 16th and 18th centuries; later changes are also documented. It was built from local materials and rendered.
The Église Saint-Sulpice de Fessanvilliers is listed as a sight in the official “Parcours découverte” programme. The village of Fessanvilliers has been documented since the 11th century and was referred to around 1080 as “Fessonis Villare”. Mattanvilliers also has a historical connection: a church in Mattanvilliers has been documented since the 12th century.
Nature and walks
The official “Parcours découverte en Eure-et-Loir” programme combines walks with the discovery of cultural heritage. In addition, the official “Observons la nature” programme presents nature walks suitable for families, during which forests, landscapes and bodies of water can be explored.
The locally described offerings also make use of the surrounding landscape. La Hut’ is a tiny-house accommodation at the foot of forests and fields in Fessanvilliers-Mattanvilliers. From April to September, La Hut’ offers a hot tub, weather conditions permitting.
The Maison de Fessanvilliers is a single-storey, 80 m² gîte in a former farm building in a village. It includes an enclosed private garden of 600 m², garden furniture, a barbecue, bicycles and a table-tennis table, as well as a shared heated pool accessible from 1 June to 30 September. The Maison de Fessanvilliers provides bicycles for exploring the routes in the Avre Valley.

The local character also includes specific providers: Le Jardin de Mattanvilliers offers market-garden produce at 9 Rue du Calvaire in Fessanvilliers-Mattanvilliers. Les Cochons de Baptiste offers pork products in the hamlet of Le Huterot in Fessanvilliers-Mattanvilliers.
