Culture

The Musée de l'histoire du Perche is located in the Renaissance residential wing of the château adjoining the keep. In the château, it traces a thousand years of history from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution. The Musée de Nogent-le-Rotrou has held the designation “Musée de France” since 17 September 2003.

The Château des Comtes du Perche has seven towers and a curtain wall, which were extended over the course of several centuries.

The nave of the Église Notre-Dame dates from the 12th and 13th centuries. The churches recommended for visits in Nogent-le-Rotrou include Saint-Hilaire, Notre-Dame and Saint-Laurent. The Église Saint-Laurent was listed as a historic monument by decree of 9 July 1927.

In the town centre, the courtyard of the former Hôtel-Dieu contains the graves of Sully and Rachel de Cochefilet.

Paths

The 155 Saint-Jean steps connect the Pâty district with the Château des Comtes du Perche. From Nogent-le-Rotrou, a cycle path follows the Huisne along a voie verte. Parc Daupeley provides a connection for pedestrians and cyclists between the town centre of Nogent-le-Rotrou and the Château des Comtes du Perche. Nogent-le-Rotrou is served by the Paris-Montparnasse–Le Mans railway line.

Events

Percheval is an event held annually since 2002 in Nogent-le-Rotrou over the Ascension weekend, with demonstrations and activities relating to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The Festival du Thé Vert takes place on the first weekend of July at the Théâtre de ver(t)dure in Nogent-le-Rotrou and has existed for more than 17 years.

Regional products

Le Chardon is a collective retail outlet offering direct sales from organic farms in the Perche, with products from more than 60 farms and craft businesses in the region. The Saturday market in Nogent-le-Rotrou is one of the markets of the Perche; producer stalls offer regional foods such as vegetables, cheese, cider, apple juice and honey.
