Nature and Trails

The circular hiking trail “En Forêt de Dreux” begins in Montreuil. The route is 7 km long, with a stated duration of approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes. The GR22, a long-distance hiking trail between Paris and Le Mont-Saint-Michel, also runs here. It includes the 11.5 km section from the Pavillon de Chasse to Montreuil, with a stated duration of approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes. Another connection runs for 4.2 km from Montreuil to Muzy; it is called the Montreuil–Dreux connection and takes approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes.

Digital history and heritage tours have been established in the municipality of Montreuil under the name “Parcours Numériques Histoire et Patrimoine”. The south-facing slope of the Côte de Montreuil overlooks the municipality of Montreuil; an area of 3 hectares belongs to the Conservatoire du patrimoine naturel de la Région Centre. Protected species are found on the slope, including certain orchid species, as well as some species of Mediterranean origin.

Landscape and Wildlife

La Côte de Montreuil is located on the Eure beside a long chalk slope with often steep inclines and is a preserved natural area. The Dreux forest massif encompasses a great diversity of natural habitats and animal species, including red deer, roe deer and wild boar.

Culture and History

Since 1988, the Église Saint-Pierre in Montreuil has been listed as a protected French historic monument. Its main construction phases date from the 14th and 15th centuries and the second quarter of the 16th century; one construction phase is recorded for 1545. The church has a 16th-century portal, preserved remains of 16th-century stained-glass windows, as well as wall paintings hidden beneath the plaster.

In the hamlet of Cocherelle, a visible dolmen dating from the Neolithic period has been preserved, that is, from approximately 20 centuries before Christ. The Dolmen de Cocherelle is visible from Rue du Dolmen at the edge of private property, but is not open to visitors.

In the immediate vicinity of Montreuil, 79 arches of the Aqueduc de l’Avre can be seen. The structure was inaugurated in 1893 and is part of the facilities that supply Paris with drinking water. The private Château de Fermaincourt illustrates the development of a former religious estate into an aristocratic residence. From the slopes of Montreuil, it offers panoramic views over the Eure Valley; the Aqueduc de l’Avre can be seen in the background.
