History and Architectural Heritage

The Église Saint-Germain has been protected as a historic monument of France since 21 December 1984. It was built or rebuilt in the 11th century by monks from the Trinité de Seincourt abbey. It was remodelled in the 15th century, when it received a massive sandstone bell tower that served as a watchtower. Near the Église Saint-Germain, the remains of a 12th-century tower keep, which belonged to a feudal motte, have also been preserved.

Walking Routes and Landscapes

The Parcours découverte de Hanches is an easy, 7.5-kilometre circular walk. It uses information panels, games and playful activities to actively engage walkers. The De la Drouette à la Voise circular route combines natural landscape scenes, visits to picturesque villages and exploration of monumental and industrial heritage. From a strategic viewpoint in Hanches, there are views over the valleys of the Drouette, the Voise and the Eure.

Long-Distance Routes

The GR 655 pilgrimage route passes through Hanches on its section in the Eure-et-Loir département between Épernon and Cloyes-sur-le-Loir. The Véloscénie cycle route from Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel also passes through Hanches in the Portes Euréliennes area.

Getting There and Events

The nearest railway station to Hanches is in Épernon; from there, Paris-Montparnasse can be reached in 45 minutes and Chartres in 25 minutes. Guided tours focusing on Hanchois heritage are scheduled for 30 August and 27 September 2026.
