Chandelles: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A walk around the Étang de Chandelles leads around one of the fishponds in the hamlet of Chandelles in the municipality of Coulombs-Nogent-le-Roi. Because there are several ponds, several routes are possible.

Nature and Trails

The GRP Vallée de l’Eure is an officially approved route of the Fédération Française de la Randonnée Pédestre. The 123 km long long-distance hiking trail runs from Dreux to La Loupe, passes through Coulombs and then reaches the Route de Chandelles.

Culture and History

The Moulin de l’Ecluse took its present form in 1823 on an old shipping canal running parallel to the Eure, at the site of the ruined Chandelles lock. At this location in the municipality of Coulombs, monks from Coulombs Abbey established a fishery and a lock in the 10th century. Later, during the canalisation of the Eure, the lock helped facilitate the delivery of building materials for the Maintenon Aqueduct.

Near Chandelles lies the Château de Nogent-le-Roi, a historical site. The Château de Morville, a castle, the Château de Maintenon, a historical site, and the Prieuré Saint-Thomas, also a historical site, are also located in the vicinity of Chandelles.

Other places at this level: Maisons, Béthonvilliers, Saint-Maur-sur-le-Loir, Gommerville, Montireau, Luce, Coudray-au-Perche, Maintenon.
