Hiking trails and cycling routes

The 69.9-kilometre-long, signposted GR®35 long-distance hiking trail runs through Montireau. The GR®35 route is marked with white and red GR trail markers.

The 38.8-kilometre VTT circular route “Par monts et par vaux” also runs through Montireau and passes through forests in sections.

The 31-kilometre cycling loop “Perruchet et ses migrateurs – Boucle vélo n°4” also runs through Montireau. It is signposted with green-and-white signs and a yellow marker bearing the number 4. In the area around the Étang de Perruche, with a little luck you can observe greylag geese or great egrets during the bird migration season.

The cycling loop starts in La Loupe; the nearby railway station is also located in La Loupe.

Nature

Montireau is part of the 522-hectare Natura 2000 site “Arc forestier du Perche d'Eure-et-Loir”. This area includes alluvial forest habitats with black alder and common ash.

Culture

The Église Saint-Barthélémy was built in the first half of the 16th century. Its wall paintings in the apse and side chapels date from the 16th and 17th centuries, while the wall paintings in the choir date from the 19th century. Large windows in the Flamboyant Gothic style still feature leaded glazing.

The Église Saint-Barthélémy contains two 16th-century funerary altars made of hewn stone. These two funerary altars were classified as protected objects on 4 February 1928. The church in Montireau was also classified as a historic monument by decree of 9 July 1980.

Montireau is also home to the Ferme du château.
