Holiday apartment in Manou: Discover nature and culture

Manou combines distinctive wetlands with notable natural features and cultural destinations in the wider area. The Tourbière des Froux is as representative of the local landscape as the municipal pond; Les Robichonneries add a habitat of their own on the edge of the Senonches forest to the natural setting.

Nature

The Tourbière des Froux in Manou covers 8.52 hectares and includes a wooded acidic bog and a peat heath. This combination of different wetland areas creates a clearly structured landscape in which the individual components offer different impressions even within a relatively small area.

The Tourbière includes a 1.5-kilometre public nature trail with raised wooden walkways. The route and its length provide a clearly defined framework for the nature experience. The municipal pond of Manou offers a separate option, with fishing permitted there. The nature trail and the body of water therefore represent two different ways of experiencing the surroundings.

The closure of the Tourbière des Froux from the end of August through October 2026 is important when planning your visit. Due to improvement works, the area will be closed to the public during this period. The nature trail and peat landscape should therefore not be considered continuously accessible for visits.

Landscape

Les Robichonneries lie on the western edge of the Senonches forest in the Perche Regional Nature Park. The site comprises an oligotrophic wet meadow, a tall-herb community and a woodland pond. Together, these three landscape elements form the characteristic structure of the site and distinguish it from the moorland landscape of the Tourbière des Froux.

Rare species can be observed at Les Robichonneries. These include the orchid Orchis négligé and the butterfly Nacré de la sanguisorbe. Both species are classified as threatened on the regional Red List. Observation here connects the area's specific animal and plant life with the special significance of this protected habitat.

Les Robichonneries is private land and cannot be visited freely. Guided tours are possible, however. This distinction is crucial when planning a visit: the site cannot be explored like a freely accessible public path.

Culture

Several mapped cultural sites can also be found in the wider area around Manou. The Château de La Ferté-Vidame is listed there as a ruin, while the Château Saint-Jean appears as a château. This selection is complemented by the Musée de l'histoire du Perche, a museum, and the Église Saint-Nicolas, a church in the vicinity of Manou.

The La Renardière complex preserves several historic features. These include the Sainte-Apolline chapel, the floors and walls of the former lower courtyard, and the façades and roofs of the last 18th-century buildings of the Hospitaller Order. The various structural elements thus point to different aspects of the former complex.

In and around Manou, distinctive natural features, a time-limited access situation and several different cultural sites therefore come together. Moorland, wet meadow, woodland pond, ruin, château, museum and church do not form a single attraction, but rather clearly distinct points of interest.
