Champrond-en-Gâtine is a place where history and nature can be seen in a variety of forms.

Culture and history

The Église Saint-Sauveur is a church dating from the 12th century that was later rebuilt and extended. An ever-flowing spring is located beneath its altar. On 7 December 2013, a painting by Carlo Van Loo returned to the church after several months of restoration.

The Tour de Champrond was built in 1876 by the godmother of the Marquise d’Aligre on the foundations of the tower of the former feudal castle. A medieval watchtower is located on the façade of a house. It is privately owned, may not be entered, and can be viewed from Rue de l’Étang.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the washhouses of Champrond-en-Gâtine were social meeting places and centres of community life. One historic washhouse is located in the hamlet of Beaurepaire, and the second at Étang du Panama.

Nature and hiking

Fishing takes place at Étang du Panama; the local angling association stocks it with trout. The private Bois Landry forest is now designated as a nature area for the preservation of its flora and fauna.

Champrond-en-Gâtine is part of the “Terres de Rando” programme of the Communauté de communes Terres de Perche. The programme promotes hiking trails to provide access to the natural heritage as well as the historical and cultural heritage. The 7 km-long “Le Beauvais” walking trail runs through the countryside in the vicinity of Champrond-en-Gâtine. The 6 km-long “Le Brisecou” walking trail also runs through the forest nearby.

Local products

At Ferme des Vitriers, products are made from the meat of the farm’s animals.
