La Bazoche-Gouet: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste has been protected as a historic monument by a decree dated 13 April 1907. Several details reveal its long construction history: most of it dates from the 16th century, while some surviving structural elements date back to the 13th century. Its features include fourteen Stations of the Cross painted on canvas by a local worker and his son, as well as 16th-century stained-glass windows. One of these windows bears the date 22 June 1541.

Culture and History

Another sacred landmark is the Chapelle Notre Dame des Bois, which dates from the 13th century. The Grand Moulin also brings together several historical eras: it was probably built in the 17th century on the site of a seigneurial mill dating from the 13th century. A complex hydraulic system has been preserved, extending across three levels and including a three-metre-diameter water wheel, millstones, a winnower and a plansifter.

Nature and Trails

La Bazoche-Gouet is located within the territory of the Parc naturel régional du Perche. The circular route “La Bazoche-Gouet, une baronnie du Perche” is very easy, 4.2 kilometres long and takes around 1 hour and 18 minutes. It starts and ends in La Bazoche-Gouet, crosses the Yerre and returns to the church.

The Plan d'eau Gilbert Lecomte is an easily accessible fishing spot with a secured fishing area near the car park.

Water and Mill History

The Yerre is a tributary of the Loir and a second-category waterway; in the 19th century, it powered the wheels of six grain mills. On the banks of the Yerre lies the Camping municipal La Rivière, next to two well-equipped fishing ponds.
