Rueil-La-Gadelière: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château de la Gadelière is protected as a historic monument: the chapel and the octagonal dovecote were listed on 13 January 1992, and the château as a whole on 25 April 2016. A visit includes a 30-minute guided tour followed by free access to the church, garden and park.

Culture and History

The Église Saint-Denis in Rueil-la-Gadelière has been listed as a Monument historique since 12 April 1961. The church in La Gadelière, dedicated to Saint Martin, dates from the Romanesque period, was restored in the 16th century, and features a decorated ceiling and painted walls.

La Gadelière is also home to a small communal bakehouse dating from the 12th century. The village itself is a medieval fortress that played a certain role during the Hundred Years’ War in the defence system against the English occupation of Verneuil-sur-Avre.

Art and Places of Remembrance

In the hamlet of La Tourillière, the Maison Vlaminck bears the Maison des Illustres distinction. It is a private attraction open to visitors by prior reservation. Maurice de Vlaminck settled in La Tourillière in Rueil-la-Gadelière in 1925 and remained there until his death in 1958. On municipal land by the town hall square, a bust of Vlaminck created by Paul Belmondo commemorates the painter; Maurice de Vlaminck was buried in the local cemetery.

Local Life and Routes

The Sources de la Vigne in Rueil-la-Gadelière contribute water to the Avre Aqueduct. La Ferme du Bois Normand produces farm-made goat’s cheese from Alpine goats and offers free farm visits on Fridays and Saturdays from 3 to 6 p.m. during opening hours.

The signposted departmental cycle route L’Avre à vélo (V300) runs through Rueil-la-Gadelière.
