Le Mesnil-Simon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A historic site in Le Mesnil-Simon is the Mausolée de Malebranche, built in 1733. It commemorates Nicolas de Malebranche, who was known as a physicist and philosopher. The mausoleum was reconstructed in 1839 and placed back at the family tomb in the same year; it has been classified as a historic monument since 12 April 1963.

Culture and History

The main construction phases of the Église Saint-Nicolas date from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Its nave ends in a four-sided apse, and a square bell tower is located at the fourth bay. The church also preserves a complete depiction of the Tree of Jesse, which was extensively restored in 1872.

Attached to the wall of the southern aisle of the Église Saint-Nicolas is the tomb slab of Jean du Bec and Marguerite de Guainville. It depicts Jean du Bec, the lord of Le Mesnil-Simon, in armour and a doublet with his coat of arms, as well as Marguerite de Guainville with folded hands beneath an architectural canopy. Jean du Bec is documented as the lord of Le Mesnil-Simon for the year 1520.

Landscape

The Bois du Mesnil-Simon is the municipality's most important woodland area and covers approximately 100 hectares of the municipal territory. This territory lies on a gently undulating plateau, which is slightly incised by the Vallon des Epinettes.

In the wider regional area around Le Mesnil-Simon, the GR 22 follows the Avre valley and then climbs towards Anet. Le Mesnil-Simon is served by bus route 88.
