Fontenay-sur-Eure: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

At the church in Fontenay-sur-Eure, visitors will find a 12th-century Romanesque choir, listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments, and a 14th-century bell tower. The nave and pointed-arch portal are characteristic of the early 16th century.

Culture and History

Historical traces have also been preserved at Pont-Tranchefétu: the vestibule and the inner stone-paved floor of the Protestant temple remain, while the mill at Pont-Tranchefétu was rebuilt in the 19th century. The Moulin de Guervilliers, between Pont-Tranchefétu and the village centre, also dates from the 19th century.

Two washhouses built in the 19th century can be seen in the village of Fontenay-sur-Eure, with paths leading to them. A walking trail along the banks of the Eure from west to east allows visitors to discover several watermills.

Nature

The managed natural areas of Fontenay-sur-Eure lie at the heart of the sensitive natural area in the Eure Valley designated by the Eure-et-Loir département. Managing these natural areas protects habitats, flora and fauna. In particular, it supports the southern hawker, a dragonfly classified as critically endangered in the Centre-Val de Loire region, as well as toothwort, a plant species considered very rare in the Eure-et-Loir département.

Paths and Circular Routes

The GR de pays Vallée de l’Eure passes through Fontenay-sur-Eure. Walking paths run around the Bois de Clos and Plantations ponds; numerous hiking trails and cycle paths cross both the plateau and the Eure Valley.

The GR 655 Ouest also passes through Fontenay-sur-Eure. It allows hikers to follow the Camino de Santiago from Paris, which runs via the Via Turonensis from Tours onwards. The family circular route “La haute vallée de l’Eure – n°3” starts at the ponds of Fontenay-sur-Eure and leads to the park of Blanville Castle. It follows the Eure and passes several medieval mills.
