The Church of Saint-Hilaire in Mainvilliers was rebuilt according to the former floor plan and dates in its entirety from the late 16th century. Four window openings in the north aisle preserve fragments of 16th-century stained glass. The existence of the church is documented as early as before 949.

Culture and history

Compa is considered the first French agricultural museum. In the exhibition hall of a former railway roundhouse, it displays 400 items from its collection, as well as agricultural tools and machinery.

The Mainvilliers library is also part of the town’s cultural offerings. Throughout the year, it hosts performances, storytelling events, meetings, participatory readings, workshops, games and exhibitions.

The history of Mainvilliers includes vineyards that have been planted since the beginning of the second millennium on the slope north of the Vauroux stream. They extended from the town limits of Chartres to near the place known as Château La Garenne. In 1789, there were 90 to 95 winegrowers in Mainvilliers.

Nature and activities

The Bois de Seresville is located in the north of the Mainvilliers area along the Couasnon Valley and is fully designated as a “classified wooded area”. The Bois de Seresville in Mainvilliers offers a promenade and a fitness trail.
