Brunelles: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Brunelles, the Saint-Martin church, historic mills and paths along the Arcisses stream come together. The individual sites point to different chapters in the history and landscape of the area.

Culture and History

The Saint-Martin church stands on a rocky promontory and is visible from afar. It preserves its original stone, round-arched vaulted chancel, after a fire destroyed most of the building erected in the 15th century. The chancel has a stone round-arched vault and two Flamboyant-style windows. The church also preserves relics of Saint Alexander, which originate from the Abbey of Arcisses.

The Les Vieux-Murs district was once home to a fortified castle, the parish church of Saint-Eloy d’Arcisses and a chapel. The history of milling is also closely linked to Brunelles: the Moulin d’Arcisses belonged to the royal Abbey of Notre-Dame du Val d’Arcisses and has been documented since the mid-16th century. After milling operations ceased, it was restored in the second half of the 20th century.

The name Moulin des Pierres in Brunelles is first documented in 1599. The Moulin des Pierres developed into an industrial grain mill, was later destroyed and was probably rebuilt on the same site in the first quarter of the 20th century. In the vicinity of Brunelles, a battle took place in 1228 between Blanche de Castille and Enguerrand III de Coucy, who had unlawfully claimed the title of Count of Perche.

Paths and Landscape

“En passant par les bois de Perchet” is a 14-kilometre circular trail marked in blue, which can also be used by mountain bike. The “Au fil de l’eau et des moulins” circular trail starts at the car park of Brunelles town hall and follows paths along the Arcisses stream.

The Association de mise en valeur du Patrimoine de Brunelles et Champrond-en-Perchet maintains the ruins of Saint-Aubin church between fields and woodland. The Val Roquet stream rises near the ruins of Saint-Aubin.
