The Domaine royal de Dreux contains two parks covering a total area of six hectares, laid out in the style of English landscape parks in the 19th century. A visit to the Domaine royal de Dreux includes the fortified estate, a three-hectare park, the underground gallery of the Penthièvre crypt and the royal chapel.

The Blaise flows through Dreux from east to west. Along the river runs the fully landscaped Sente Rotrou, designed exclusively for pedestrians; the landscaped banks of the Blaise also invite visitors to take a stroll.

Culture and History

The Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Dreux presents works of art from the 19th and 20th centuries, medieval sculptures, decorative art and archaeological remains in a chapel dating from the late 19th century. Free short guided tours are offered without reservations, with each session lasting 15 minutes.

The Église Saint-Pierre was built in the 13th century, renovated in the 15th century, extended in the 16th century and completed in the 17th century. It features stained-glass windows from the 15th and 16th centuries.

The Chapelle de l’Hôtel-Dieu was consecrated in 1170 by Jean de Salisbury, the Bishop of Chartres. It is an exhibition venue in Dreux where self-guided visits are possible at any time.

The Beffroi de Dreux was built from 1512 to 1537 by three renowned architects, including Clément Métézeau. It is the only belfry in the Eure-et-Loir department. Guided tours are available on request and last an average of one hour.

Getting There

Dreux railway station is a 20-minute walk from the entrance to the Domaine royal. There are direct connections, including from Paris Montparnasse via Transilien; the journey takes 1 hour and 15 minutes.
