Margon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Margon is located in the southern part of the Parc naturel régional du Perche. The Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel church stands on a rocky outcrop above Margon’s old town centre. Its Romanesque remains in the apse show that it dates back to the 11th century.

Culture and History

The church has a romantic organ built in 1902 by Abbé Tronchet – the parish priest of Margon and also an organ builder. The restored organ can be heard; musicians are invited to play it.

Historical traces can also be found below the town centre: the municipal washhouse is located on the banks of the Cloche in Rue des Lavandières and dates back to the first half of the 19th century. Margon’s old town centre appears to have been associated with the de Radray family since the 17th century, who were referred to in this context as the “Lords of Margon”.

There were originally three mills in the area of Margon: the Moulin de Beaudolet, the Moulin de la Cave and the Moulin de la Vallée. Two of them are still preserved on the banks of the Cloche. A mill in Margon housed an ice factory from the beginning of the 20th century until the 1960s.

Paths and Landscape

The Cloche is a river whose valley is lined with numerous pastures. Cattle and often Percheron horses graze in these pastures. The Canal d’Arcisses runs along the Cloche for approximately 3 km. The “Le Val d’Ozée” route also leads through the hedgerow-dominated landscape of the Cloche valley. The route description to Margon follows the D 910 to Chartres and then the D 923 to Margon.

The circular hiking trail “Margon – Le canal d’Arcisses” is 6 km long, takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and is classified as very easy. It starts at the Base de loisirs de la Borde. The route “La vallée de la Cloche”, associated with Margon, also starts at the Base de loisirs de la Borde and is 32.5 km long; it takes approximately 3 hours.

Water and Leisure

The Plan d’eau de La Borde is a 23-hectare former gravel quarry located on the Cloche and the Huisne in Margon’s old town centre. The leisure facility there offers fishing, walks, pedal boating, jogging, the starting point for mountain bike tours, nature exploration and games for children.

The Plan d’eau de La Borde also has a car park, toilets and picnic tables.

Local

The “Le Petit Marché de Margon” farmers’ market, featuring producers from the Perche, takes place on Fridays from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Margon’s market hall.
