Boncourt: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Boncourt showcases its natural beauty particularly impressively in the Vallée des Cailles. The area is known for 14 orchid species and is nicknamed the “Vallée aux orchidées”. It is open to the public and features a 4 km circular trail with an information board at the edge of the limestone grasslands.

Nature

The Vallée des Cailles is located on the GR 22 and offers a panoramic hiking route. Access from the centre of Boncourt is via the RD 21-2 in the direction of Rouvres; before the last houses, the GR 22 branches off to the right. The Vesgre Valley in Boncourt also has a hiking trail.

Since February 2012, the Vallée des Cailles has been a regional nature reserve with limestone grasslands and woodland in a dry valley on the edge of a state forest. The protected landscapes also include Les Côtes de Boncourt, a natural area on the limestone slope of the Vesgre Valley in Boncourt. The limestone grasslands there are well preserved. The fishing area encompasses the Eure and Vesgre rivers as well as bodies of water in the neighbouring municipalities of Oulins and Croth.

Culture and History

The Église Saint Martin de Boncourt was built in the 16th century from white stone sourced from the Boncourt quarry. The church contains three paintings: a 19th-century Christ on the Cross, an Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and a late-19th-century Descent from the Cross. There are also partially unfinished black-and-white frescoes by Paul Ackerman, created around the 1960s.

The former Boncourt quarry near La Garenne d’Oulins was mined until the 1950s. The stone extracted there was used for numerous local buildings, including the Château d’Anet, the Église Saint Pierre d’Oulins and the Église Saint Aignant de Gilles.
