Culture

The “Courage-Liberté” monument in Thénioux was inaugurated on 24 May 1997. A monument is dedicated to the passeurs who helped people cross the demarcation line.

Near Thénioux, the Cher formed the demarcation line crossed by escaped prisoners, people in hiding, Maquisards, resistance fighters and others fighting underground. Raymond Toupet and his brother Marcellin established an escape network that took numerous people in hiding across the Cher by boat at night.

Routes

The “Circuit 1 de la Garenne” circular route is a 3.25 km hiking trail in Thénioux. Loop no. 16, “la route de l’ocre”, runs between the Canal de Berry and the Cher valley.

The Canal de Berry is maintained from Foëcy to Thénioux. Various facilities along the canal can be used on foot or by bicycle throughout the year.
