Saint-Loup-des-Chaumes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Loup-des-Chaumes has a varied landscape consisting of bocage hedgerows, extensive arable farming and woodland. It is also home to the Natura 2000 site “Coteaux, bois et marais calcaires de la Champagne Berrichonne”, which extends across Saint-Loup-des-Chaumes and includes watercourses, dry calcareous grasslands and scrub encroachment stages, calcareous marshes and alluvial forests.

Culture and Architecture

The parish church of Saint-Loup-des-Chaumes contains a painted wooden tabernacle dating from the 17th century. The church windows have round arches, and the choir consists of two bays with rib vaults. The portal bell tower dates from the late 19th century. The furnishings also include a remarkable polygonal, polychrome-painted wooden altarpiece from the 17th century depicting Mount Tabor and the Last Supper.

The Prégirault washhouse is a 19th-century limestone structure. It has a rectangular shape and sloping slabs set in the water, which made washing easier.

Traces of Times Gone By

At Chaumes-des-Bois-Dé, remains of enclosures from the Bronze and Iron Ages have been preserved. Grand-Bois-Dieu is home to a necropolis that forms part of the archaeological evidence of the Bronze and Iron Ages in Saint-Loup-des-Chaumes. Boissereau is one of the Gallo-Roman villa sites in Saint-Loup-des-Chaumes.

Out and About

The long-distance hiking trail GR41 runs through Saint-Loup-des-Chaumes and offers opportunities for walks and hikes. Local roads and smaller lanes are also suitable for walking and hiking. The banks of the Cher are considered a suitable place for fishing in Saint-Loup-des-Chaumes.
