The Château de Sagonne was built between the 12th and 15th centuries. The medieval rooms display antique furniture, tapestries, weapons and armour, portraits, and historical memorabilia.

Culture and History

The Musée Mansart is located directly next to the Château de Sagonne. It is dedicated to the dynasty of the Mansart architectural family, particularly Jules Hardouin-Mansart, and houses an extensive collection of contemporary engravings, documents, and photographs relating to the lives and work of the four Mansarts.

The tour of the medieval village of Sagonne begins at the Église Saint-Laurent, a Romanesque church in the village centre. The tour also includes the public washhouse dating from the 19th century.

Events

Every year in July and August, the Centre Artistique et Culturel Mansart association organises the Saison de Sagonne, featuring concerts, performances, and exhibitions.

Geographical Location

The Château de Meauce is located in the vicinity of Sagonne. In the wider region around Sagonne are the ruins of Cholet, the Musée Charles-Louis-Philippe, and the Abbaye de Fontmorigny.

The Motte-Béraud site comprises two platforms surrounded by moats; one of them is topped by a 15th-century tower house. The owner of the Château de la Motte-Béraud offers free guided tours of the castle.
