Saint-Caprais: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Saint-Caprais displays its historic character particularly clearly in the Church of Saint-Pierre: it preserves a 12th-century choir apse.

Culture

The tower and bell tower of the Church of Saint-Pierre date from the 14th century. The choir and apse have also preserved architectural elements from the period when they were originally built.

Another historical landmark is located in Champfrost. The place was referred to as CAMPUS FROALDI in 1111. The priory chapel in Champfrost contains heavily faded wall paintings and further traces of painting; the wall paintings include an Annunciation scene and a depiction of the nursing Virgin Mary with the Christ Child. The earliest mentions of the priory date back to the beginning of the 14th century. The priory chapel is privately owned.

Nature

Saint-Caprais is one of the municipalities in the Natura 2000 site FR2400520 “Coteaux, bois et marais calcaires de la Champagne Berrichonne”. The site features particularly species-rich limestone grasslands with 26 orchid species, as well as numerous rare and very rare species. Its landscape forms include terraces, limestone slopes, marshes and rocky cliffs on the slopes and plateaus above the Cher, as well as in adjacent valleys.

Getting around

The GRP de Champagne Berrichonne runs through Saint-Caprais. The route is a 150-kilometre circular trail.
