Saint-Denis-De-Palin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Denis-de-Palin is located along the Bourges–Verneuil section of the Canal de Berry, between Annoix and Dun-sur-Auron. The Canal de Berry stretches for more than 320 kilometres. Its state of preservation varies depending on the section: some parts have been decommissioned, while others have been restored.

The Natura 2000 site “Coteaux, bois et marais calcaires de la Champagne Berrichonne” includes Saint-Denis-de-Palin.

Nature

The Natura 2000 site includes dry, calcareous grasslands, rare marshlands and vegetation associated with the Cher valley. It is home to numerous orchids and several rare plant species at the limits of their distribution ranges.

Culture and History

The parish church of Saint-Amand was built in the 12th century. Two side chapels and a sacristy were added in 1853. During restoration work in 1874, the choir of the parish church of Saint-Amand was raised.

The fortified castle of Champs de Saint-Denis has been documented as a seigneurial residence since the 13th century. Its first fortification was circular and surrounded by moats fed by the Auron.

The Villaine site has been documented as part of the lordship of Thaumiers since 1260. In 1845, Villaine was converted into a winery; a wine press and stables were built as part of the conversion.
