Coust: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Église Notre-Dame dates back to the early 12th century. Its nave has no side aisles and features a visible 16th-century roof framework; it also has a round-arched, barrel-vaulted choir and an apse vaulted with a domed cap. On the south side of the choir stands a square bell tower with a stone spire whose ground plan is octagonal. By decree of 2 June 1911, the church was classified as a historic monument.

Culture and history

The furnishings of the Église Notre-Dame include the 17th-century statue of the Vierge à l’Enfant, made of polychromed wood. It is included in the inventory of the Monuments Historiques and is visible to visitors.

The Château du Creuzet is a 15th-century château with a tall residential tower flanked by a subsidiary tower. The residential tower has five levels and is topped by a crenellated parapet with machicolations and a tall pyramidal roof. The cemetery cross of Coust also dates from the 15th century; by decree of 26 September 1892, it was classified as a historic monument.

Nature

The Massif forestier de Tronçais is designated as a type 1 natural area of the ZNIEFF and includes the municipality of Coust.

Hiking

The “Le chemin de randonnée de Meillant à Tronçais” hiking trail can be used on foot, on horseback, or by mountain bike. The trail includes the Étang de Coust as a landmark along the route.

Surroundings

The historic site of Abbaye de Noirlac is located near Coust. In the wider regional surroundings of Coust are the Musée Charles-Louis-Philippe and the historic site of Abbaye Bois-d'Habert.
