The bay in front of the apse of the Église Saint-Martin in Nohant-en-Graçay dates from the 12th century and supports a small wooden bell tower. Beneath the bell tower, the capitals feature depictions of animals and heads. By decree of 19 August 1921, the bell-tower bay was partially classified as a Monument historique.

The “Du radiotélescope au clocher tors” cycle route leads to Nohant-en-Graçay, where Balzac was a guest of the commander and Zulma Carraud.

Things to do

The “Parcours de l’instruction civique de Zulma Carraud” is free of charge and open seven days a week. The P’tit parcours de l’Instruction Civique Zulma Carraud is a secured walking route through the village, with 16 stations over 1.2 kilometres. It provides interesting information about Place Zulma Carraud and Zulma Carraud’s life in Nohant.

A guided tour of the village along the Zulma-Carraud route is available on request; it lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes. The P’tit parcours de l’Instruction Civique Zulma Carraud includes a picnic area, parking facilities and sanitary facilities. The village route follows the banks of the Verger and includes the place known as “Fousse aux ch’vaux”, the Sente des “ousils” and three wash houses.

Nature

Fishing competitions are regularly held at the Étang de Lenay in Nohant-en-Graçay. The Étang de Lenay is associated with the AAPPMA de Graçay.
