Bué: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Bué is a wine-growing village within the Sancerre appellation. The village combines the Sancerrois wine landscape with historical traces and festival traditions that can be experienced at specific places and events.

Wine

The Caillottes, a stony limestone soil, are part of the area’s landscape and wine-growing profile. Some of the best-known sites on this type of soil include Le Grand Chemarin and Le Chêne Marchand.

The Domaine du Carrou is located in the village of Bué. There, the “It’s Wine Time” programme includes a 45-minute discovery walk with explanations about the region and its terroirs, followed by a 45-minute tasting of three to four wines, with the corresponding vineyard presented for each one.

At Domaine Merlin-Cherrier, Sancerre AOC wines in red, white and rosé are sold directly from the estate. Individual visitors can also arrange a free tour of approximately 30 minutes there upon prior request.

Nature

The Circuit des Croix offers two routes: a short route of 5.3 kilometres and a long route of 13.5 kilometres.

The hiking trail leads to 19 crosses distributed throughout Bué and opens up various viewpoints of the village. The hills around Bué also offer numerous remarkable panoramas over the Sancerrois vineyards, which can be explored on foot or by bicycle.

History

The proximity of the Roman road from Bourges to Auxerre and a spring that feeds a votive fountain in the heart of Bué suggest that the village has been inhabited since very ancient times.

The former parish church of Sainte-Radegonde in Bué was built in the 13th century under the patronage of the chapter of Saint-Étienne in Bourges. Only remnants of it remain, incorporated into a building dating from the 1870s.

Festivals

The Foire aux Sorciers was founded in 1946 and renamed La Nuit des Sorciers in 2008. It is the oldest festival in the Sancerrois.

La Nuit des Sorciers includes a torchlight procession of the Birettes through the vineyards.
